How to dress for the big day: thrifted edition.
There’s a common phrase people traditionally say on your wedding day. It goes a little something like this: "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” This tradition describes the items a bride should have on her wedding day.
If you’re an upcoming bride and want to follow tradition while receiving some good luck along the way, I’m here to help you out.
Here are 3 accessories you can thrift to fulfill your “something old."
1. Shoes
Good shoes are a necessity for a bride. You'll be in them almost all day, so they need to be comfortable.
The nice thing about thrifted shoes is that they're generally a little worn in, meaning they'll be perfect for comfort and ease on your big day.
Another plus to thrifting your shoes is that there are so many options and they're easy to sort through since they're sorted by size. They're all unique and can really add some character to your look.
Thrifting shoes also comes in handy when you're trying on wedding dresses. It's a good idea to wear your wedding heels to a fitting to get correct measurements. However, if you don't have your pair of shoes just yet, thrift a pair that's the height you're going for and make your life easier.
2. Ribbon
Ribbon has become the newest It Girl accessory. This title is no doubt due to its versatility and diversity.
Thrifting ribbon is a great way to subtly elevate your look. They're easy to incorporate and they're extremely unique. You can buy a bag with a large variety of ribbons at the thrift store.
Similar to "something old," ribbons can be used as "something blue." You can find an adorable blue ribbon to put in your hair during your reception, or you can even use one as a garter.
Ribbons are extremely classy. If you're grossed out by the idea of used ribbon, just remember that you can always gently wash them in the sink and iron them to look brand new.
If you want to aid more flair and personalization, try embroidering the ribbon to have a heart or your spouse's initial.
3. Jewelry
What people don't know is that you can get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to thrifted jewelry.
A great way to capitalize on this is to purchase bags of jewelry. Some thrift stores sell these as "mystery" jewelry bags, and they contain a large amount of various jewelry.
You can also simply go to the jewelry section in the store and start trying things on. Trying before you buy is critical because it allows you to inspect the quality. Keep an eye out for any missing stones or broken clasps.
Once you go home, make sure to polish your pieces up and they'll look brand new.
No doubt you'll find some timeless items that carry a story, perfectly fitting the idea of "something old."
Make sure you also check out the thrift store for your bridal shower and reception outfits! Doing this is a great way to save money and look unique.
