Stepping Into Style: The Comeback of Ugg Boots
Updated: Nov 29, 2023
Most of us know about Uggs from the early 2000s when their popularity skyrocketed. Almost everywhere you looked you could find someone wearing Uggs. Today is no different: everyone has them. They’ve made a huge comeback, but who do we have to thank for it? The answer: Bella Hadid.
Last year, Hadid was spotted wearing a pair of them on the streets of New York. She’s always been known for her “model off-duty” looks, with people constantly wanting to copy and be like her (me included, of course), so it was only a matter of time before people started emulating this part of her style too. And it’s not hard to do when the boots also serve functional means that satisfy customers.
People love Uggs because they’re extremely comfortable and stylish. In fact, they recently released new versions of the Ugg boot that really lend themselves to the latter. Instead of their basic, shin length boots that we’re used to, Ugg introduced boots with bows and straps, platforms, and even launched mini versions.
One of the most popular pairs right now is their Ugg Tazz Platform Slippers. All across my Instagram feed I see girls wearing these shoes. Even more so now that it’s starting to get cold outside. And the thing is, they’re not just “it girls” that are wearing them, they’re everyday people like you and me. I’ve noticed in college especially; I see people rocking these boots across campus or in their dorms.
These shoes are honestly ideal for college students because they have a sort of “casual but put together” feel to them. After all, if you’re running late to a class and need to hurry and get ready, just slide them on and you’re on your way. You’re guaranteed to get compliments on them and give off “it girl” vibes along the way. Plus, they’re great to wear all day from class to class because they’re so comfortable.
However, these boots can be upwards of $100 which can be pricey for some college students. So, might I suggest first checking your local thrift store? You’re bound to find a pair of Uggs that someone got rid of once they “went out of style” in the early 2000s. And lucky you- you can snatch them up for that Y2K look.
Worst-case scenario, if you can’t find or can’t afford Uggs, just put them on your Christmas list and when you go home for the holidays, I’m sure your parents will come through ;)
