Balletcore

Balletcore is taking over the fashion world by storm. Inspired by the attire of ballerinas, its seen in our street fashion and on the runways. Urban Outfitters even has a whole section dedicated to balletcore. But what is it exactly?

Balletcore is fashion inspired by ballerinas. This means clothing in soft pastel colors, such as pale pink, lavender, and light blue, and clothes that are usually made out of delicate materials with either very tight or very flowy fits. Here is a list of what exactly is trending within balletcore:

  • Ballet flats

  • Leotards

  • Sheer tights

  • Leg warmers

  • Wrap skirts and shirts

  • Bows

The New, Go-To Shoe: Ballet Flats

These are shoes that resemble ballet slippers. They’re typically made of soft leather, satin, or canvas. However, these can be more durable than the lightweight ballet shoes in some cases. For example, hard leather ballet flats with lots of straps are currently trending.

Leotards: A Wardrobe Staple Item

Leotards can also be considered as a body suit. This is a tight-fitting one-piece garment that covers the shoulders to crotch. It’s a great layering piece for your outfits and the tight fit gives shape to your body. There are all types of leotards to fit your personality.

Sheer Tights: Let's Show Off Those Legs

These are also considered a layering piece. They can be worn under skirts or dresses, or even over leotards if someone is going for that genuine balletcore look. They’re usually a lighter pink shade, but any will do. Some people even cut their tights up to create shirts.

Leg Warmers: Functional and Stylish

These are similar to socks, but they’re usually footless. They cover your lower legs: shins and calves. They’re usually knitwear and a little baggy. These are extremely practical for the cold weather right now.

Wrap Skirts and Shirts: Flowy and Sophisticated

These articles of clothing are typically shorter than your average wrap skirt or short, so as to not restrict a ballerina's movement. They wrap around your body and tie off together, allowing you more coverage, but it’s still breathable. Amazon has a great selection of shirts and skirts if you’re unable to find some thrifting.

Bow-tiful Style Tips

Bows have really taken off lately. Seen incorporated in hairstyles, on articles of clothing, and even as accessories, such as around your neck or wrapped around your waist as a belt, they’re extremely versatile and a great way to add a touch of personality to your outfit. It gives off a graceful and elegant look, just what balletcore is all about.

You can incorporate these ballet-inspired elements into your wardrobe to create a graceful and elegant style that draws inspiration from the world of ballet.
